Starting

A couple of posts back I had mentioned how I was looking for a job.
Dropping off resumes everywhere.
Luckily for me, I shadowed at an office where they know me.
Besides knowing me,
the hygienist that I shadowed during my student life was pregnant.
I remembered her telling me she was due sometime in August.
Having those fantasies locked in my mind...
I didn't allow them to make me overly confident about this job.
The moment I got my license,
I got a couple of hygiene gigs at the office where I work at on the weekends.
The reason why today is the most important day of my career
is because I started today as a hygienist and ended the day as a hygienist.
I did tooth cleanings on eight patients.
Today, I was the professional
and there was no one there to correct me or tell me I did a great job.
Today, it was just me and my instruments.
Instruments that when they decided not to work around the afternoon,
I had to figure out a way to make ends meet without them.
Today, I was the only voice the patients heard.
The only recommendations they heard about a certain product came from me.
If they bought it, it was simply because I educated them enough to understand they need it.
Today, I came home after a long working day tired.
Tired but proud.
Proud of my professionalism.
I cannot wait for tomorrow to do it all over again.
Today, I realized the career I chose is the one I absolutely love.
